Stourbridge 2-0 Leiston

Stourbridge joint boss Leon Broadhurst said the inspired substitutions that helped give his team all three points were partly inspired by boredom.

Jason Cowley and Ethan Moran both came on in the second half and scored to give Stourbridge a deserved win but up to that point it had seemed doubtful either team were going to get off the mark.

Broadhurst said: "To be honest me and Stuart (Pierpoint) looked at each other and we were getting a bit bored, we felt we needed to do something which would inject more pace, be more direct and more ruthless.

"Jason coming on gave us more energy and the goalscoring ability we needed, he made some good runs, and then Ethan came on and gave us some more quality.

"We are massive believers in Ethan, he's young and still learning the game and does change things when he comes on which we feel is best for him at the moment but his turn will come a part of the starting line up."

One relative veteran - Reece Styche - missed a penalty on four minutes when he was brought down in the box by Oluwasijuola Odelusi and it looked like it could be a frustrating afternoon for the Glassboys.

Captain Lee Vaughan went close and for Leiston, George Quantrell headed just wide of a post right before the break.

Before the two goals, Styche saw a clever angled shot cleared off the line and it wasn't to be his afternoon goal wise.

Cowley smashed the ball home though on 70 when Kieron Cook's shot off a defender deflected into his path.

Moran's goal on 79 minutes was probably the more impressive of the two when he turned and made his own chance before shooting home from just outside the penalty area.
