Stourbridge 1 Hitchin Town 2 - Report
Stourbridge suffered a severe setback to their promotion prospects with this damaging defeat to Hitchin.
Although the Glassboys began brightly with both Alex Nicholls and Will Grocott forcing fine saves from Hitchin goalkeeper Charlies Horlock, they soon found themselves 2-0 down.
Danny Webb headed Hitchin into the lead on 16 minutes from a well worked corner move before impressive Colchester United loanee Diogo Freitas Gouveira added a spectacular solo second goal just three minutes later.
Stourbridge were kept in the game when goalkeeper James Wren pulled off two fabulous saves on the stroke of half time to deny Gouveira and then Alex Marsh when both looked set to score.
Although Stourbridge pulled a goal back on 49 minutes through new signing Nathan Hayward they struggled to break down a well drilled Hitchin side who always looked capable on adding further goals on the break.
