Stourbridge 2 Biggleswade Town 0 - Report and pictures
Stourbridge got back on track after three defeats in a row with a battling performance at Amblecote to see off play-off chasing Biggleswade.
In doing so, they completed the double over the Bedfordshire side and although it wasn't pretty for the 633 spectators, Stourbridge boss Gary Hackett said the result was all important.
"They are a good side and although we played well at times today, we had to grind the result out and see it through and that was more important than the performance.
"Some of the players were nervous after the recent run and we had to take that into account as well but overall we are obviously pleased just to have got the three points and hopefully now we can take it from there."
The Glassboy's nerves were carved somewhat through an Aaron Hayden goal on six minutes, the Wolves loanee eventually scrambling the ball home after it bobbled around from a Robert Thompson-Brown free kick on the left.
The rest of the half was scrappy, though Biggleswade saw a shot by Donovan Makoma tipped over by James Wren and a half volley from Matt Ball go over the bar.
They came out attacking in the second half, and Hayden just managed to put the ball over his own bar during a period of pressure before Solomon Nwaboukei's shot was saved on the line by his own player, Peter Clark.
Once again Luke Benbow came up with the goods for Stourbridge when it mattered, powering a 75th minute free kick into the net despite Sam Donkin's best efforts to try and save it.
Still Biggleswade threatened to score what may have proved a consolation., Nwaboukei's cross reaching the head of Joe White whose header was saved by Wren and captain Kieron Forbes putting an effort just wide.
