Stourbridge 2 AFC Rushden & Diamonds 1 - Report

Long serving Leon Broadhurst bagged a last minute winner as Stourbridge snapped up maximum points against an impressive Rushden side.

Broadhurst slotted home from close range after Rushden had failed to clear from a free kick.

That was after the Glassboys had gifted Rushden the opening goal on 10 minutes.

Central defender Paul McCone completely mis-hit an attempted back-pass allowing John Dean to intercept and round Glassboys goalkeeper James Wren who netted a simplistic goal.

Stourbridge stepped up a gear and should have levelled on 24 minutes when dangerman Greg Mills rounded full back Callum Westwood and was promptly brought down.

Luke Benbow stepped up to take the resulting penalty but Rushden goalkeeper Ben Heath got down to turn his spotkick around the post.

From the following corner, full back Aaron Hayden netted, only to have the goal ruled out for a foul on Heath.

Stourbridge did level on the half hour when Mills again cut inside Westwood and fired into a crowded goalmouth, where everyone missed the ball as it flew into the far corner of the net.

Chances proved at a premier in the second half.

Stourbridge had to thank defender Jack Duggan for a goal-line clearance on 61 minutes after Joel Gyasi got behind the Glassboys defence.

At the opposite end Aaron Forde had a shot on the turn deflected wide and from the following corner, Heath excelled to claw Duggan's header round the post.

The winner arrived on 90 minutes after Robbie Thompson-Brown was needlessly brought down by Jack Ashton.

Thompson-Brown got up to take the free kick himself and floated the ball to the far post where it was headed back across goal by substitute Stuart Pierpoint for Broadhurst to pounce and turn home.
