Gary Hackett: Stourbridge loss 'very disappointing'
Boss Gary Hackett labelled Stourbridge's 2-1 defeat to Halesowen Town 'very disappointing' and believes his players 'gifted' their opponents both goals.
The Glassboys were the favourites going into the Number Nine Derby but fell to a defeat following two first half goals from Daniel Udoh.
Hackett praised 's his opponents performance and said: "Well done Halesowen. They have had their little cup final today and we have been beaten."
Ryan Rowe scored Stourbridge's goal in the second half, deflecting in a Leon Broadhurst free kick taken from the edge of the box.
Stourbridge were third going into this Evo-Stik Premier Division encounter, while Halesowen were rock bottom.
But the defeat has seen the Glassboys slip to fifth, while Halesowen moved from the bottom, up two places to 22nd.
Hackett said: "I think one thing you will find in football is that it is unpredictable.
"I'm pretty sure a lot of people have came down here expecting it to be a Stourbridge win and formality. I certainly didn't think that.
"For the two goals we have conceded, we have been very poor. They have come from our own attacks and we have gifted Halesowen two goals and what we have given them is a lifeline.
"Credit to them afterwards, they are 2-0 up and they have defended very, very well.
"But we have given them that lifeline.
"Sometimes if a team opens you up from great play and scores a great goal, you put your hands up. But for it being from our own attacks and then conceding two goals like that, it was very poor.
"It was Halesowen's day today. It is a horrible thing for the great support we have had but you have to take it on the chin.
"We had underperforming footballers today and it is very frustrating.
"You're not going to win every match and in such a big game like this we are all very disappointed."
