Stourbridge sweat on Jack Duggan fitness
Stourbridge defender Jack Duggan is poised for a late fitness test ahead of tomorrow’s home FA Cup third qualifying round clash with Alfreton.
Duggan is nursing a knee injury and boss Gary Hackett is hopeful the centre-back will be fit to feature as the Glassboys aim for another Cup upset.
Stour have beaten higher-ranked opposition on no fewer than five occasions in the last decade and are aiming to claim another scalp in Alfreton, who play one level above the hosts in National League North.
Hackett insists his team remain the underdogs but admits they go into the game in confident mood, after Tuesday’s 5-1 win away at Warrington.
“That was probably our best performance of the season so far and the players are on a high,” said the boss.
“Alfreton have had a decent start in what is a very tough division. Let’s be honest, we are going to need to create another upset.
“I’m sure they are aware of our exploits and will not take us lightly.”
Stour, who have reached at least the first round proper in each of the last two seasons, will be without Devarn Green due to the striker having already appeared in this year’s competition for Hednesford.
