Stafford Rangers up and running with first win

Stafford Rangers ended their search for a first Northern Premier League win with an away-day triumph at Stalybridge Celtic last night.

Rangers made a fine start to the contest when Jed Davies’s cross from the left ended up in the back of the net.

The hosts squandered a chance to level on 41 minutes when Scott Bakkor fired a penalty over the bar.

And they were immediately punished when Joe Berks doubled the visitors’ advantage n the stroke of half-time.

Brad Grayson then wrapped up the win for Rangers with a third goal just after the hour mark.

It was a bad night for Southern Central Premier high-fliers Hednesford Town and Rushall Olympic.

Hednesford were knocked off top spot after crashing to a 4-0 defeat at Bromsgrove Sporting.

And Rushall were also beaten, 1-0 at home by Barwell.

Halesowen Town’s are through to the next round of the FA Trophy following a victory at home to Evesham United.

Luke Yates scored twice and Montel Gibson once as the Yeltz won 3-0.

Wolves’ youngsters beat Stratford Town on penalties in the firts round of the Birmingham Senior Cup.

The tie ended 2-2 after 90 minutes with Bouba Hanne scoring twice for Wolves. The Molineux men then triumphed 4-2 in the shootout.
