Stafford Rangers defender Danny Burns on mend after a horror clash

It was a ‘minor miracle’ that defender Danny Burns did not come out worse off from a horrific head collision during Stafford Rangers’ FA Cup exit at Stourbridge, Boro joint-boss Alex Meechan said.

Burns was taken to hospital in an ambulance after a lengthy stoppage of play with 20 minutes of the tie remaining, where Rangers were 2-1 down and would go on to lose by that scoreline.

The defender collided with goalkeeper Lewis King. He was discharged from Russells Hall Hospital later on Saturday evening having lost four teeth, suffered a broken nose and several lacerations to his face.

“He had an X-ray to his cheekbone and eye socket and thankfully everything is in place which is a minor miracle,” said Meechan.

“He’s very sore, had an uncomfortable night and is and not in a good way but it is not as bad as we first feared even though it is still bad. The game was irrelevant.”
