Steve Burr calls for a cutting edge at Stafford Rangers

Stafford Rangers are aiming to pick up their first win of the season – against boss Steve Burr’s former employers.

Burr is readying his Rangers charges for the visit of Stalybridge Celtic, who he left in order to take charge of the Marston Road outfit.

Boro have drawn two and lost two in the Northern Premier so far and Burr has called for a cutting edge.

“We’ve not had the start that we hoped for,” he said.

“We’re created plenty of chances but we haven’t put them away and if you don’t take your chances, you tend not to win games. That being said, I’d be more concerned if we weren’t creating anything.”

Rangers’ last result was a 1-1 draw with Mickleover Sports at home on Monday. Kyle Perry got the Boro goal.

“Kyle has got off the mark and hopefully that’s the start of a run for him, give him some confidence,” said Burr.

“We want goals from all over the park though, not just Kyle.

“Our fans were fantastic for that game, they really were the 12th man and made themselves heard.

“It’s just shame we haven’t given them what they deserve so far, but I think it’s just around the corner.”

Burr has had two spells as gaffer of Stalybridge. He was also there from 2007 until 2010, leading them to the Conference North play-off final in 2008 which they lost to Barrow.

“I enjoyed my time at Stalybridge. It’s a well-run club, like we are,” said Burr.

“They’ve had a good start and, like us, are looking to get back up to that National League North level.

“As I say, I enjoyed it there but my focus isn’t on them. It’s on getting our first win of the season.”

Burr signed striker Declan Arber earlier this week after some impressive displays for the club’s under-18s.

He added: “Declan has scored seven goals in two games for the under-18s and that stuff doesn’t go unnoticed.”

Also in the Northern Premier, Hednesford Town can make it back-to-back victories on the road as they head to Whitby Town.

In the Southern League Central, Stourbridge and Halesowen Town, who drew 1-1 in the No.9 Derby on Tuesday night, face King’s Lynn Town and St Neots Town respectively.

Chasetown travel to Prescot Cables in the West Division.
