Stafford Rangers have been dealt a big blow as winger Izak Reid is set to miss the rest of the season through injury.

The 30-year-old was on the receiving end of a crunching tackle from Nigel Julien in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win at Barwell.

Reid, whose brother Levi also plays for Rangers, sustained knee ligament damage and Julien was shown a straight red card.

“There was a reckless challenge to Izak, which has likely ended his season,” said Kitching.

“That’s a really big blow for us. He’s been a key player, especially over these last eight games which we’ve managed to go unbeaten.

“His form since the turn of the year he really has been fantastic, probably the best form he’s had in the two years we’ve had him here at the club.

“It was a bad one. He couldn’t walk afterwards and it’s ligament damage – his knee and shin area.”

Boro ended up playing against nine men at Barwell as Lee Hildreth was dismissed after picking up two yellow cards.

Kitching’s men were also awarded two penalties, Rob Thompson-Brown scoring both of them, and the gaffer feels they should have had a third too.

“We had two and a stonewall one turned down, where Kyle Perry’s shirt was pulled,” added Kitching.

“We went behind (through Kieran Morris’s own goal) but got in front with the two penalties and saw it through. I was happy with the performance.”
