Stafford Rangers 2 Matlock Town 0 - Report
‘Excellent’ was the word used by Stafford Rangers boss Neil Kitching after his team secured a 2-0 win against Matlock Town, which was their first since Boxing Day.
A goal in each half for Karl Hawley was enough to take the victory for the home side, in what was a commanding performance from Rangers.
Neil praised his team’s efforts and hopes they can use this result to kick on for the rest of the season.
He said: “We have been quite strong in the last two or three games and it was a fantastic win with for points for the week.
“Today we were excellent, especially in the first half, we were really dominant.
“It was a difficult pitch to play on with all the rain we have had, but we played some cracking stuff and got our threatening players on the ball.
“We had the better chances, but Adam Whitehouse made some great saves and kept us in it and we defended magnificently.
“We want to keep the run going now and push on.”
Stafford took the lead on 15 minutes when Kieran Morris headed down a free kick into the path of Hawley and his shot from inside the box sailed past the keeper.
Hawley then made it two just after half time when he stormed into the box and sauntered through the Matlock defence to double Stafford’s lead.
Matlock tried desperately to get themselves back in the match and they came close on several occasions, but Stafford had done enough to take the victory.
