Stafford Rangers target new man after duo exit
Stafford Rangers boss Neil Kitching is hoping to snap up a midfielder after losing Richard Batchelor to Evo-Stik Premier rivals Stourbridge.
Batchelor, 29, has moved to the Glassboys following 61 games and six goals for Boro.
“We’re disappointed to lose him, but we always knew that it could happen,” said Kitching.
“When a club like Stourbridge comes calling, with the backing they have, there’s not that much you can do.
“Batch did really well for us and he was a good character – on and off the pitch – so we wish him well.
“But we’re looking at bringing in another player before the weekend, perhaps with capabilities and strengths Batch didn’t have.”
While a new arrival is on the cards, Kitching has challenged his current crop of midfielders to raise their game.
“We’ve got some similar to Batch at the club, in Josh Craddock, Rob Thompson-Brown and Jack Sherratt.
"The responsibility shifts to others in the squad, they’ve got to step up.”
Rangers – who welcome table-toppers Altrincham to Marston Road on Saturday – have also had winger Louis Briscoe leave, to join Sutton Coldfield Town.
Kitching feels the club’s target can help fill that void too, and added: “Louis has moved on to get more minutes.
“He hadn’t featured a lot over the past month or so.
"We’ve had two go out the door and the player we’re looking at can help fill the hole Louis has left as well.”
