The Boro boss said he was surprised by how many supporters made the trip over the county border into Shropshire.

Kitching’s men went down 4-1 in the replay at the New Bucks Head but had their chances to gain a foothold in the game before the hosts finally put the tie out of reach in the second half.

But the boss admitted the level of support for Rangers which saw more than 250 Boro fans back their team with some noisy support throughout the game.

“I was surprised by the turnout,” he said.

“I didn’t think we would bring that many over. There were a couple of messages on fans’ forums about getting a couple of coaches over and a minibus but there didn’t seem to be any interest.

“I thought we might take 100 or 150 but when we came out and saw the fans behind that goal. There were a good 250 there, probably more.

“They sang throughout the game and got behind us at key times as well. When we got the equaliser, they really got behind us at 1-1.

“I thought in the second half they could have been that 12th man and got us over the line but it wasn’t meant to be.”
