Rangers boss ponders making changes
Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes may have to make a change in defence for what he describes as the "hardest game of the season" against Southport.
Rangers host the Blue Square Premier side in the FA Trophy first round at Marston Road on Saturday with a number of potential absences to contend with.
Dean Oliver, Michael Carr and Ryan Dicker all left Tuesday night's Walsall Senior Cup tie at Stafford Town with injuries that are being treated with caution.
Oliver has a hamstring strain but is cup tied anyway, while strike partner Karl Ashton has given extended leave to recover from the shock of a car crash.
Carr was left with a nasty cut and swollen eye after the Town game but boss Clowes is hopeful the midfielder will recover for Saturday, less so on Dicker.
The defender, on his Rangers return, took another bump to the shin where he had five stitches weeks before and the biggest of the two injury doubts.
Liam Walshe could take his place after missing the midweek match with an ankle problem while Danny Quinn, Ryan Brown and Oliver Davies are still ill.
Clowes said: "It's one of the toughest draws we could have had and it will be our hardest game of the season, without a doubt.
"Our lads will know they will have to pull out all of the stops to get a result on Saturday, because we are the underdogs.
"But it's at home and I imagine we will get a good gate, along with them bringing a couple of hundred of their fans.
"We have got a challenge to get ready for and I am sure we will be up for it."
