Rangers look after Jermaine Johnson

Stafford Rangers have taken steps to insure Jermaine Johnson will be looked after financially after the defender's horror leg break.

Johnson broke his fibula and suffered ligament damage playing in the Bank Holiday Monday 2-2 draw at his former club Hednesford.

The 21-year-old rejoined the club this summer on non-contract forms and is currently not tied to a long-term deal at Marston Road.

But Rangers boss Greg Clowes revealed that the club has insurances in place to see that the centre-half will not also be hit in the pocket.

Clowes said: "There has to be insurances in place, the Football Association won't allow any non-league club to run without it, that would be crazy.

"I don't know what the levies are or what the rates are, that will be done between the club and Jermaine."

The manager has spoken with the player since he suffered the injury but, until the swelling goes down, they won't know the extent of the damage.

Johnson could well miss the rest of the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League season but Clowes is refusing to take that as a given just yet.

He said: "I have spoken to JJ and he's devastated, because he was enjoying his football. It's one of those things, it could happen to anybody.

"The most important thing, at the moment, is JJ. He's broken his fibula and damaged his medial ligament, I don't know which one is worse.

"If it's severe with his ligaments, it will probably keep him out longer than his break, but I have to live in hope that he will play again this season.

"It's a blow for us because he has done so well, he's a good player and you can't replace someone like that overnight."
