Stafford Rangers manager Greg Clowes today revealed his plans to sign teenage ace Oliver Davies as one for the future at Marston Road.

The 18-year-old has spent pre-season on trial at Rangers but is close to landing an offer after impressing Clowes since he arrived at the club.

The left-back started and played an hour in Tuesday's 5-1 pre-season friendly win at Alsager and could be used as cover for Ryan Brown.

The former Port Vale academy player's potential has been earmarked by the Rangers boss as an ideal foil to supplement his 21-man squad.

Clowes said: "I am hoping to sign Oliver, he's a player that I feel we need to have under the Stafford Rangers banner.

"He's got a nice left foot, he listens to what he's being told and he can recover well, he's got some potential.

"From what I have seen of him, I would like to sit him down and get him under our umbrella at some stage.

"I have seen something in him that I like."

Clowes may make further signings with both of his first-choice wide men out for the start of the new Evo-Stik Northern Premier League season.

Peter Heler is suspended for the first two games for a red card last season and right wingers Dean Clarke and Grant Jeffries are still on trial.

Left winger Jon Sheldon is out until September after knee surgery but Fabrice Kasiama is back at the club, although he has yet to sign.

Clowes said: "Fabrice gives you something going forward and Jon is not going to start the season off, that's quite clear to see.

"We are probably looking at Jon being fit and ready to go in September and that's if everything goes OK.

"He's had his operation but he still can't put any weight on his knee, he's got to build his muscles back up."
