Kettering 2 Rushall Olympic 1 - Report

A battling and spirited performance from Rushall Olympic ended in heartbreak as league-leaders Kettering Town claimed a winner in the third minute of time added on. It had appeared that the visitors had done more than enough to have earned, what would have been an excellent point, but the Pics suffered a cruel blow when substitute Brett Solkhon fired home the winner.

The home side were quickest out of the blocks and took an early fourth minute lead when AARON O`CONNOR headed home a free-kick following a goal mouth scramble.

But the visitors responded well to their early set-back and had a great chance to equalize just three minutes later when the ball fell for Danny Waldron at the back post but home goalkeeper Paul White pushed the striker`s half volley past the post. As the Pics kept up the pressure White produced a fine save to deny Massiah McDonald but then Matt Sargeant, in the Pics goal, kept his side in it by producing a fine save after a slip from Orrin Pendley.

However, the visitors were level when a long throw from AJ Adelekan was superbly headed home by Danny Waldron.

The second half was nip and tuck with chances few and far between with Sargeant producing one fine save to keep his side on level terms but in the third minute of time added came the cruel moment. Sargeant made another fine save to concede a corner and when O`Connor crossed the ball there was substitute Solkhon to fire home the winner and give his side a huge advantage in the title race stretching their lead to eight points, ahead of second placed Stourbridge, but also having two games in hand
