Liam McDonald is happy with his Pics so far

The Pics are back in Southern League Central action tomorrow and unbeaten after their first three games.

They got the first win of the campaign last time out, beating St Neots Town 1-0 thanks to Danny Waldron’s strike.

Prior to that, they drew 2-2 with Coalville Town and 1-1 with Banbury United.

“The last performance was our best of the three so far,” said McDonald ahead of the Dales Lane clash.

“We played with the energy and tempo that has previously been lacking and we restricted them to limited opportunities.

“It was a deserved win and we’ll take the confidence gained from it into the next game against a Royston side who have drawn two and lost one of their games to date.

“I am expecting them to come here and be well-organised and difficult to break down, so we will need to reach the levels that we did in our last game and work hard if we are to get the desired result.”

The Pics are offering discounted admission to Walsall, Villa, Wolves, Albion or Birmingham season ticket holders.

Also in the division, Halesowen Town are welcoming Biggleswade Town to The Grove.

The Yeltz are looking to make it two wins from two on home soil, after beating Lowestoft Town 1-0 on the opening day.

Former Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake could be handed his first start for John Hill’s men.

Stourbridge are also yet to lose, having drawn with Barwell on the opening day and enjoyed victories over Stratford Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

They are heading to Coalville Town and skipper Leon Broadhurst is aiming to keep his hot streak in front of goal. He has scored in each of their last two matches.

Summer arrival Greg Mills has impressed so far for the Glassboys too.

Over in the Northern Premier, Stafford Rangers are making the long trip up to South Shields.

Boro chief Steve Burr said: “It’s a place I’ve not been to, South Shields. It’s another long trek on the road.

“We had them watched the other night, it’ll be a tough one for us.”

They go into it on the back of a 1-1 draw with Grantham Town on Tuesday night. Louis Briscoe put them ahead by Grantham levelled soon after.

On that result, Burr added: “We’re pleased to get up and running, but really we dropped two points because for me once we scored, I thought the floodgates would have opened. We should have killed them off. We could have done better, we needed that second goal just for a cushion. It’s one of them.

“We’re still bedding in as a squad – me getting used to knowing where we’ll get the best out of the players.”

Hednesford Town, who got off the mark on Monday night with a 2-1 victory against Basford United, face Gainsborough Trinity at Keys Park. They have signed left-sided player Sam Grimshaw ahead of the game.
