Rushall Olympic 1 Farsley Celtic 1 - Report and pictures
A late goal earned visiting Farsley Celtic a share of the spoils that their second half display deserved.
They left it late though and the goal was a travesty for home goalkeeper Jahquil Hill who fumbled the ball and it broke loose for Danny Ellis to sidefoot into an empty net.
The goal was harsh on the young goalkeeper who had made several excellent saves throughout the game and his efforts appeared to have earned his side what would have been an important win.
After both sides had made a bright start to the game it was the home side who took a thirteenth minute lead when Danny Waldren`s left foot shot found the back of the net much to the surprise of Celtic `keeper` Grahame McKibbin, who watched the ball nestle in the back of the net.
The Pics should have doubled their lead in the twenty first minute when Waldren picked out Richard Brodie with a perfect cross but the striker headed wide when well placed and as the home side continued look for a second goal Brian Smikle`s cross was headed down by Joe Hull but the ball ran away from Sam Whittall.
Rushall continued their impressive spell and a volley from Hull was cleared off the post and after Colkerline`s free kick was wide the play switched to the other end only for Waldren to fire straight at the visiting keeper.
The visitors opened the second half on top and were denied several times by some fine saves from Hill.
Three minutes into the second half Isaac Baldwin went close but Hill got down well to save his right foot shot. The visitors kept up the pressure and an excellent flick from Colkerine found Cartman whose attempted chip was saved by Hill.
The home defence were defending well but Adam Clayton`s acrobatic kick was close to an equaliser but the Pics then eased the pressure a little with a break which ended with Brodie`s shot saved by McKibbin.
There was another half chance for the visitors but Baldwin`s shot was pushed out for a corner by Hill.
At the other end a free kick from Sangha was headed wide by Brodie.
It was end to end stuff now and Hill made another fine save to keep the scores level keeping out a shot from Danny Ellis and three minutes from time Hill made an even better save to keep out a tremendous volley by Ellis.
The goal that Celtic had been threatening came a minute from time when Hill failed to hold the ball and Danny Ellis had the easy task of sidefooting the ball into an empty net.
The last effort of the game fell to the visitors but Colkerline`s free-kick was high and wide.
