Rushall Olympic 1-2 Hednesford Town - Report
Charlie Gatter’s second half goal earned Hednesford Town victory in this entertaining Boxing Day Day derby at Dales Lane.
Rushall took the lead 19 minutes in when Danny Waldron got in behind Hednesford’s defence before pulling back perfectly for Richard Brodie, who shot first time into the bottom corner from 15 yards out.
The Pitmen equalised on 31 minutes through a Mason Walsh effort. The winger was played in by James Lawrie and he took the ball into the box before firing past Jahquil Hill.
Waldron nearly put the Pics back in front barely a minute later, when he latched on to a long ball over the top. His low shot was just kept out by James Wren.
Walsh was in the thick of the action again on 34 minutes when he crossed in for Joey Butlin, who saw his header hit the bar before Hill gratefully saved the follow up.
The visitors hit the bar again on 44 minutes, this time through James Fitzgibbon. The midfielder eased into the box down the left and his shot cannoned off the bar and out of play.
Hednesford took an early second half lead on 49 minutes when the ball fell to Charlie Gatter following a goalmouth scramble and the big centre back tapped home into an empty net.
Rushall could have equalised on 88 minutes when a Jordon Sangha through ball found Zak Lily but the substitute’s shot was easily held by Wren.
