FA Cup: Blackpool 2 Kidderminster Harriers 0 - Report
Kidderminster Harriers crashed out of the FA Cup with a 2-0 loss to Blackpool, writes Joe Edwards at Bloomfield Road.
There appeared to be more Harriers fans, who were in good voice throughout, present than those of a home persuasion for this first round clash, in which Jamille Matt and Brad Potts got the goals for the Tangerines.
Only one side of the ground to the 1963 on hand was opened as Pool supporters held a protest an hour prior to kick-off over how the club is being run.
Harriers enjoyed the lion's share of possession during the early exchanges but were unable to create any clear cut chances.
Brad Potts provided a warning for John Eustace's men with an effort which went wide before Jamille Matt put the Tangerines ahead inside the 27th minute.
The striker, who used to play for Harriers, headed home from close range after Kyle Vassell's accurate cross from the right hand side.
The visitors went near to a quick response but Keith Lowe's strike from an acute angle was blocked. The experienced centre-half claimed for handball but referee Martin Coy was having none of it.
Blackpool then doubled their advantage after 37 minutes as Potts fired the ball into the far corner from the edge of the 18-yard area after his initial effort was blocked by Lowe.
Gary Bowyer's men should have been three up by half-time but Danny Philliskirk, who replaced the injured Matt, shot wide from six yards out.
Harriers boss Eustace tried to shake things up by introducing Liam Truslove at the start of the second period, and Andre Brown shortly after the hour mark.
Mani Dieseruvwe had a strike cleared off the line but the hosts were in the ascendancy, with Michael Cain and Vassell having shots saved by Sam Hornby.
Eustace made one last roll of the dice with Sam Austin entering the fray but too many passes were going astray in the final third for Harriers as the pace of the game reduced significantly.
It was a spirited showing from the National League North side but the League Two outfit were deserved winners.
