Harriers' chairman urges Colin Gordon to take over permanently

Kidderminster Harriers chairman Rob Brown wants chief executive Colin Gordon to become the club's permanent head coach.

Gordon has been in temporary charge of first team affairs since Dave Hockaday was axed in January.

The 53-year-old, who became major shareholder at Aggborough in November, has already stated his intention to bring in a replacement at the end of the season.

But Brown has now revealed his belief Gordon should be the man to take the job on full-time.

"I feel very strongly about it, I would have Colin all day and I have already told him," he said.

"I think the philosophy we want to see, the brand of football we want to see, we are getting some of that now.

"This club is not the Kidderminster Harriers it was three years ago, it is a different club altogether.

"I don't think the philosophy can be carried out better than the person who believes in it most.

"My idea of a coaching setup would be Colin working with two other people, as a team of three, as opposed to the conventional manager.

"It is how I see it and I am happy enough to say it."

Gordon has led Harriers, who are bottom of the National League Premier, to three of their five wins this season. However, they have lost seven of the other eight games of which he has taken charge and, despite his words, Brown faces an uphill task in persuading his colleague round.

In a week where the club revealed they have spent the last few months trying to dig their way out of a £300,000 financial "black hole", Gordon believes his talents are best served away from the pitch.

"Am I qualified? Yes. Can I do it? Absolutely. Is it the best use of my time? I think that is debatable, I don't think it is," said Gordon.

"The way it will be look won't be a million miles away from what the chairman is suggesting but the responsibility for the team, selection and tactics would probably be better suited on somebody else's shoulders.

"I would still have an involvement, the philosophy has to be adhered to. But the chairman has not met all the candidates I would like him to meet."
