Harriers see off their tenants to claim cup
Substitute Jared Hodgkiss' winner for Kidderminster Harriers enabled them to lift the Worcestershire FA Senior Cup for the 26th time in their history.
Harriers beat Worcester City 2-1 in last night's final at Aggborough. Sean Geddes gave City the lead shortly after half time before Harriers equalised five minutes later.
Hodgkiss pounced on 79 minute to enable Gary Whild's men to hoist the cup for the first time since 2010.
It was billed as a clash between landlords and tenants against Conference North outfit Worcester, who play their home games at Aggborough.
They gave Kidderminster cause for concern in the ninth minute when a neat build-up ended with Daniel Nti spurning a decent chance by firing high over the bar from close range.
Harriers steadily began to get into their stride and a speculative long range angled shot from captain Jack Byrne was not far off the mark.
A similar fate befell Ahmed Obeng shortly after when he let fly with a powerful low drive.
Both sides played at lively tempo and Harriers' goalkeeper Jasbir Singh had to be alert to safely deal with another firm drive from Nti.
Harriers were never afraid to try their luck when in shooting distance and, in the 21st minute, Jake Green fired wide with a drive from the edge of the penalty area.
Front-runner Akwasi Asante had the ball in the City net just after the half hour mark, but the whistle had already gone for off-side.
Within a couple of minutes of the restart Harriers went close to breaking the deadlock when Byrne flashed a header just wide following a teasing free kick by Craig Reid.
City, however, forged ahead on 49 minutes when Geddes scored with a beautifully struck curling shot from the edge of the area.
Harriers drew level five minutes later when a Reid corner caused chaos in the City penalty area which led to midfielder Maxwell smashing the ball home from close range.
They clinched their hard earned winner when defender Hodgkiss finished off a cross from Obeng.
