Sunderland boss Gus Poyet backs Kidderminster Harriers for promotion
Sunderland manager Gus Poyet today backed Kidderminster's Skrill Premier promotion challenge as he praised their FA Cup efforts at the Stadium of Light.
Harriers lost their fourth-round clash on Wearside 1-0 but former Chelsea and Tottenham star Poyet was impressed with Andy Thorn's side.
And the ex-Uruguay international believes Harriers will push hard for a place in the Football League.
"Credit to them," said Poyet. "They put in a good effort and gave everything, so even if they didn't get a draw to set up another game they should be proud of what they did.
"We know Andy very well because when we were at Brighton he was at Coventry.
"He did well there in the beginning but in the second part of the season it was difficult for them.
"Kidderminster are organised, they know what they are doing and they waited for their moment.
"They waited for the last 10 minutes to throw everything on to the pitch and hope for that corner, free-kick, second ball, long ball or whatever.
"The fans that were with them were excited so credit to them.
"They should be thinking if they play like that, are organised like on Saturday and defend how they did against any team in their division they shouldn't concede a goal.
"Now it's up to them to see if they can do it."
