Andy Thorn targets flying start at Kidderminster Harriers
Andy Thorn was today ready to hit the ground running at Kidderminster Harriers – after revealing he turned down offers from league clubs to take over at Aggborough.
The 47-year-old met with the playing squad for the first time this morning as he began preparations for Saturday's home game with Salisbury City.
Tuesday's FA Cup third round replay at Peterborough then follows for Thorn, who was appointed yesterday just 24 hours after the shock axing of Steve Burr.
And the former Coventry boss revealed he had been made offers by a couple of unnamed league clubs before the call from Harriers chairman Mark Serrell.
"It's all happened really quickly," said Thorn. "I was mulling a couple of offers from league clubs before I spoke to Mark.
"The passion he showed for the club was a massive reason I took the job.
"It's something I am really looking forward to and it did not take me long to make up my mind."
Thorn has already moved to appoint Craig Knight as his first team coach. Harriers are yet to make any statement over the future of assistant boss Gary Whild, who was due to meet with Serrell yesterday afternoon.
With many fans still reeling from Burr's abrupt departure, Thorn acknowledged the importance of making a strong start.
"It's important we get going as quickly as we can," said Thorn. "There is nothing like winning football matches to breed confidence. That is what we will be trying to do.
"It will be frantic at first but I'm used to frantic. We are looking forward to the challenge and looking forward to putting our stamp on it.
"The club's support and its fanbase is fantastic. They obviously had a close relationship with the previous manager.
"I hope I can build the same kind of relationship."
Thorn also revealed he has already identified several possible transfer targets.
He added: ""January is an important month and we are alert to what is going on. We have targets and will see what happens."
