Mike Williams targets Harriers place

Kidderminster Harriers defender Mike Williams is determined to force his way back into manager Steve Burr's thinking.

The 26-year-old has made seven league appearances this season but has not started a game in the Blue Square Premier since Harriers drew 1-1 with Gateshead at the end of October.

Although he has not been involved lately, Williams revealed he will continue to work hard in training in a bid to win back his place.

He said: "Obviously, like any player at my age, I'm keen to be playing regularly so it is a little frustrating, but I realise it's a squad game and I have got to wait for my chance.

"Football can change so quickly and, at the moment, I know have to knuckle down in training, stay fit and be ready for when I'm called upon by the manager.

"You never know what might happen. Hopefully, if I do that, I will be able to take my chance when it comes along."

Williams is keen to play some part against former club Wrexham when they visit this weekend, having made 118 appearances before he made the switch to Aggborough in 2010.

And the ex-Wales youth international admitted he is looking forward to renewing acquaintances.

He said: "I have a lot of good memories of being at Wrexham so it will be nice to catch up with some of the players I still know there and say hello to some of the coaching staff.

"I had my reasons for leaving and it was time for a change but I haven't got a bad word to say about anybody at all and I had a great relationship with everyone there.

"Obviously, I'm keen to get on against my old team, even if it's just from the bench."

And Williams predicted a tough game for Harriers against the Dragons, who are second in the table behind Grimsby on goal difference.

He added: "We know it's going to be tough for us but the last couple results have been pretty good so, hopefully, we can give a good account of ourselves."
