Steve Guinan returns to the Kidderminster Harriers squad having been giving a coaching role at the club to coincide with his playing duties.

After being rested for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Alfreton, the 36-year-old is back in the squad for tonight's Blue Square Premier trip to Cambridge.

And the veteran has been added to the backroom staff at Aggborough, after signing a one-year contract to prolong his career in the summer.

Guinan is in his 20th season as a full-time footballer with his 15th club, first signing professional forms for Nottingham Forest in 1993.

He said: "I'm really pleased to be getting involved - I think I have got a lot I can pass on myself and it will be a great learning curve.

"I still enjoy playing and, hopefully, I can stay involved because you never stop getting itchy boots and wanting to play a part on the pitch.

"But, if I'm not in the squad, this is a great way to make sure I can still have an impact and make a contribution."

Harriers boss Steve Burr brought the much-travelled hitman to the club last year and he made 26 starts and 13 substitute appearances in his first season.

Guinan has combined playing with a full-time job as football academy manager at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire for the last 21 months.

Burr said: "Steve very much sees himself moving into the coaching side of things and this is a really good addition to the backroom.

"He's doing a great job at Hartpury College and I am sure he will have an influence on things here at Aggborough as well.

"I want to make it clear that he will still have a big involvement on the playing side of things for us, as he has such tremendous experience.

"But this is something that will benefit everybody."
