Kidderminster Harriers new-boy Danny Pilkington has been hailed as having a massive effect on pre-season as the team prepare for their latest batch of games.

Harriers host League One club Walsall tomorrow night before Stourbridge come to Aggborough for the Worcestershire Senior Cup final on Saturday.

Pilkington will be involved and played a starring role in Friday's 1-0 win at home to a young Wolves team, his goal the difference between the sides.

The summer arrival for York won and drilled in a free-kick with 13 minutes to go and his display was another plus point to come out of the match.

The 22-year-old also shone in the previous friendly at Stratford the previous Monday, scoring one and making another as Harriers ran out 5-1.

Trialist Paul McCone was fielded on Friday against the club he served as a trainee, with assistant boss Gary Whild pleased with the Wolves result.

He said: "It was an even game, I thought and, again ,it was a good work out for the stage of pre-season where we are at.

"It was good to see us believing in what we're doing – in a very tight game, a bit of quality won it in the end.

"You look for contributions from players and we have looked at Danny over the last two games.

"He got a goal and an assist at Stratford last Monday and scored a great goal here that's won us the game.

"That's massive for him and, although we keep talking about it, it was another step forward for us."
