Kidderminster Harriers' footballers should be fighting fit for the start of their new season after taking training at Wolverhampton Amateur Boxing Club.

Harriers players were at the gym on Willenhall Road to take on an alternative form of preparation as they look to smash through their rivals.

Stafford Rangers will be in the other corner for 90 minutes of action at Marston Road tomorrow as the two teams engage in a pre-season friendly.

The Harriers side is sure to pack a punch with the likes of Lee Vaughan, Ricky Shakes and Marvin Johnson fresh from the fight club.

Harriers' community officer Nick Griffiths took them into the boxing arena and manager Steve Burr is expecting to witness the fitness.

Burr said: "In terms of training, it is certainly something a bit different for us.

"The one thing you can say about the boxing profession is that the athletes in it are supremely fit.

"It's another good way for us to get some work into the lads."

A young Harriers side landed a swift KO at Stouport Swifts last night, Ryan Simmons scoring in a 1-0 win.
