Kidderminster Harriers today revealed they want veteran striker Steve Guinan to prolong his career at Aggborough for another season.

The 36-year-old made 26 starts and 13 substitute appearances in his first season with Harriers, scoring eight goals, and is 37 in December.

Guinan combines his playing duties with being football academy manager at Hartpury College in Gloucestershire, a job he took 18 months ago.

It's fully expected that the much-travelled forward will concentrate on a career in coaching and management when he hangs up his boots.

But Harriers hope that will not be just yet as they prepare to offer him terms to start what would be his 20th season as a full-time footballer.

The Worcester-based marksman first signed professional forms for Nottingham Forest in January 1993 and has played for 15 clubs.

And Harriers assistant boss Gary Whild believes management would be "foolish" to let such an experienced campaigner retire.

Whild said: "We would like to do something that would enable Steve to stay if we can, I know the gaffer and I would be keen to keep him here.

"He certainly contributed last year but, in all fairness to him, he has a lot going on and is focussing on his career after he finishes playing.

"He, rightly, wants to coach and manage and that's something he has to consider and we will have to consider.

"But, if there is something that can be done then, we would be foolish to not try and make it happen.

"He did very well for us and is a great guy to have around."
