Harriers injuries clear up for Luton
Kidderminster Harriers today moved to reassure supporters that there will not be another triple change for Saturday's promotion showdown at Luton.
Kidderminster Harriers today moved to reassure supporters that there will not be another triple change for Saturday's promotion showdown at Luton.
Strikers Steve Guinan, Nick Wright and Anthony Malbon all went off in the 6-1 win over Kettering, Harriers' biggest victory since March 2008.
Guinan was still feeling the effects of a minor operation on his nose two days earlier, while two-goal Wright took a knock to the ankle on Saturday.
Malbon also scored but went off late on with blood coming out of his mouth, after clashing with a Kettering defender.
But Harriers were today confident all three will take their places for the penultimate game of the Blue Square Premier season.
They have a five-point lead over Saturday's hosts in the play-off places but the Hatters have two games in hand, starting at home to Ebbsfleet tonight.
There's little Harriers can do before Saturday's clash at Kenilworth Road but assistant boss Gary Whild can provide an encouraging injury bulletin.
He said: "I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem for Saturday - they were all a precaution, really.
"Not many people realised that Steve had undergone that operation last week, having played with a broken nose against Southport and Newport.
"It was a good opportunity to not have to push him through 90 minutes, as there was no need to do that.
"When you play a lot of games in quick succession, there is a case to look at players and, perhaps, rest them.
"Likewise, the same can be said for a player who perhaps hasn't played as much, like Nick."
While also reports midfielder Jack Byrne is "doing a lot better" with the hamstring injury that forced him to miss the Kettering game.
However, the Luton trip may have come too soon for the 22-year-old, with Mansfield at Aggborough to come next weekend.
But Marvin Johnson may fit to travel on Saturday, after being omitted from the last game with a slight groin strain.
Whild added: "He pulled up a bit short on the Friday with a groin injury and, again, he is a young lad who has played a lot of games recently.
"It was sensible not to involve him."
