Kidderminster Harriers today hoped that Danny Lewis' rehabilitation will inspire team-mate Tom Sharpe after he underwent anterior cruciate ligament surgery.

Sharpe went under the knife yesterday for surgery, where the ACL in his right knee had nearly snapped and was hanging on by a couple of fibres.

Lewis suffered the same injury last September and is battling towards a return, withe previously first-choice goalkeeper targeting pre-season.

Harriers today reported that Sharpe's surgery was a success but it's a long road back for the 23-year-old, who faces from six up to nine months out.

The centre-back will almost certainly miss the start of next season but can take heart from Lewis, who was able to a warm-up at Tamworth last week.

That was inside six months after the same proceedure and Harriers physio Gavin Crowe believes Lewis could come back stronger than ever.

Crowe said: "Danny's body shape has changed dramatically, he's gone from a little, tubby man into one of pure muscle!

"He has worked extremely hard over the last five-and-a-half months and he's progressing how we would want him to.

"He has had a slight setback, with a slight pull in his calf, but nothing significant and we can go back to stepping his rehab up.

"He's diving, running, jumping, so it's a case of getting him sharp now and ready for pre-season, he's on target for that.

"That was always the aim for him."
