Kidderminster Harriers today remained confident that Jamille Matt will play for the club again despite being branded "an illegal immigrant."

But Harriers chairman Mark Serrell admits it could take "between two and six months" for the striker to receive clearance to work in the country.

This is despite the front-man, who was born in Jamaica, living in England from age seven and studying at university in the country.

It's understood the problem came to light when Matt was called up to the England C squad for the first time last month.

The 22-year-old pulled out claiming he had a back injury and, when the issue came to light with his club, he was put on leave.

Harriers explained his absence was through "personal issues" as they dealt with the matter privately, before a story appeared in the Sun on Saturday.

The same story claimed that Harriers were facing a hefty fine and points deduction as a punishment, which the club are confident won't happen.

They labelled the article "unwelcome" and "inaccurate." After Saturday's 4-1 win at Braintree, chairman Mark Serrell was candid in his response.

He said: "I have spoken with the Conference this morning, they have been fully aware of the whole situation and have been very supportive.

"So have the Football Association, who we have been in close contact with on a regular basis.

"We have been fully open with all the parties involved and tried to protect Jamille and his family.

"This is something that can be solved relatively quickly and will be solved to the benefit of the club.

"This is only from information given by our legal team, but the process for Jamille to get the approvals he needs are between two and six months."
