Kidderminster Harriers today brought Aston Villa and England midfielder Lee Hendrie back to full-time football after signing him to non-contract forms.

The 34-year-old joins as a free agent after recently playing for part-timers Daventry United, managed by his former Villa team-mate Mark Kinsella.

The one-cap England international arrived for training with the Blue Square Premier club yesterday and, after impressing management with his fitness levels, has signed for Harriers.

Despite only landing non-contract status, his proposed weekly wage is thought to put him among the highest earners at Aggborough.

Hendrie has been out of the professional game for all of this season after leaving Indian Premier League outfit Bandung, where he signed in January, at the end of the last campaign.

His last club in the Football League was Bradford, moving on at the turn of the year, serving under his former England under-21 boss Peter Taylor.

The Birmingham-born star is best remembered for his 12 years at Villa, making over 250 appearances, before signing for Sheffield United in 2007.

After failing to settle at Bramall Lane, Hendrie was loaned out to Leicester and Blackpool, before joining Derby County midway through the 2009-10 season until the end of the campaign.

Hendrie's only game for England came aged 21 as a late substitute on 18 November 1998 against the Czech Republic, but he played 12 times for the under-21s between 1994 and 1999.
