Kidderminster Harriers' defender Lee Vaughan missed a penalty before being sent off inside the opening five minutes against his former club AFC Telford.

Harriers then fell behind in the eighth minute at Aggborough last night before hitting back to lead 2-1 at half-time, thanks to a well-taken effort from Jamille Matt and an own goal from Dan Preston.

But their bid to hang on for maximum points perished in the 75th minute when Telford notched an equaliser through Chris Sharp.

The deadlock nudged injury-hit Harriers into ninth place in the table and left manager Steve Burr wondering what might have been had Vaughan not seen red for a rash tackle on Courtney Pitt.

Burr said: "You can work all week on things and get your tactics, and all that type of thing, but you can't legislate sometimes for what happens on a football pitch.

"It's a straight red card, no question, and to play with 10 men for 85 minutes is a very hard thing to do. To hold on for that amount of time is always going to be a tough task."
