Mickleover Sports 5 Hednesford Town 0 - Report
Hednesford Town were handed a lesson in finishing after being put to the sword by Mickleover Sports to suffer their sixth defeat out of seven on the road.
The Pitmen were on the back foot from the start and fell behind in the sixth minute when Ben Turner was given a free header in the penalty area as his effort found the back of the net.
In the 13th minute Danny Glover saw an effort saved by Sports goalkeeper Lewis King while at the other end Evan Garnett fired an effort just wide of the Pitmen goal.
Hednesford should really have been level in the 24th minute when James Lawrie picked out Glover but he planted his headed effort straight at King.
This would prove crucial as three minutes later the home side doubled their lead when a freekick was played into Clinton Morrison who let the ball role into Garnett and he finished smartly past James Wren.
Things went from bad to worse in the 38th minute for Hednesford as Andy Dales got to the byline and he picked out Garnett who tapped home from six yards.
Hednesford thought they'd reduced the arrears on the stroke of halftime but Glover's effort was ruled out for offside.
Two minutes into the second period it was 4-0 as despite the initial freekick being blocked the ball well to Lewis Belgrave and he fired a low effort into the corner of the net.
Things got worse for Hednesford in the 54th minute when Mickleover played it around the Pitmen backline before Dales saw his shot from 18 yards beat Wren and find the back of the net.
A minute later Lawrie was denied by King after he saw his 30 yard freekick kept out at the second attempt.
Hednesford continued to search for a consolation goal and almost found it in the 75th minute when some good football eventually saw a Glover header striking the crossbar.
The away side continued to press and First Joe Fitzpatrick saw an effort blocked at the near post before a stringing 30 yard box front from Glover was saved.
In the 83rd minute Mickleover could have added a sixth goal when they were awarded a penalty but Garnett missed his chance for a hattrick as he fired his effort well over the goal.
The Pitmen now turn their attentions towards Tuesday evenings home game against Altrincham.
