Gary Birch steps down as Hednesford Town boss in Walsall Wood move
Hednesford Town boss Gary Birch has stepped down as manager of the club, joining Walsall Wood.
The decision was made by Birch, who will take over at his new club during their pre-season preparations.
"Following talks with the football club late tonight we can now confirm that manager Gary Birch has resigned from his position at Hednesford Town Football Club." read the Hednesford Town statement.
Walsall Wood confirmed the appointment of the former Saddlers striker online.
"Walsall Wood Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Birch as 1st team manager." read the Walsall Wood statement.
"Gary will be joining us from Hednesford Town FC. He resigned his position there yesterday and will be starting with us in our pre-season."
The 35-year-old originally took on the role at the Pitmen as caretaker, but following an impressive spell replaced Paul Casey on a permanent basis.
“I run my own business and work is increasing and, knowing how much is needed and expected at Hednesford, I decided it was not the right time,” said Birch.
“We are looking to bring in players at Walsall Wood with promotion in mind. I’m looking forward to it.”
Hednesford finished the season 15th in the Evo-Stik Premier Division, but will now seek a replacement for Birch ahead of next season.
