Liam McDonald appointed as new Hednesford Town boss

Hednesford Town have appointed former Redditch United boss Liam McDonald as their new manager.

The 31-year-old has mightily impressed at The Valley Stadium, where he spent three years rebuilding a Redditch side as his first job in management.

In his final season last year, he took the Reds to the play-off semi-finals after finishing in second place to Poole Town.

His Redditch side looked set for the final before a 95th minute Leamington equaliser took it to extra time and eventually spot-kicks - where Leamington went through.

McDonald takes over from Frank Sinclair, who was the Pitmen's third boss last season following Rob Smith and Bernard McNally.

McDonald will be assisted by his Nick Green and coach David Bridgewater - who also join from the Southern Premier side.

The new boss said: "I'm excited about the future, having spoken with the club at length it is a challenge that I am up for.

"Hednesford Town are a massive club and I know they had difficulties last season. I know that they have the support base here though and I want them to get behind me and the team.

"The chairman, Steve Price, is realistic as to where the club is at – that has impressed me that he understands the position we are in.

"I know that it is a rebuilding job and it is something that I am looking forward to and excites me very much."
