Cracking win for Halesowen

The Yeltz ran out 2-0 winners and secured a place in the second round of the competition after overcoming the visitors from two levels above them in the football pyramid in last night’s first round replay.

Simeon Cobourne was the hero, netting a goal in each half to set up a tie at home to Maidenhead United on January 11. Cobourne’s first came on 37 minutes as he fired home from inside the box.

After a couple of near misses, Cobourne doubled the lead with a superb strike just before the hour-mark at the Grove.

From there, the Yeltz held on for a deserved victory.

However, Hednesford Town were unable to repeat the feat in their own replay at Chester City.

The Pitmen went behind after 16 minutes through Chester’s Bradley Jackson.

Akwasi Asante made it 2-0 to the home side after 34 minutes.

The Pitmen came into the game more in the second half and after 50 minutes, Danny Glover fired home a loose ball to reduce the deficit. Despite some late pressure, Hednesford were not able to find a vital equaliser.

Chasetown’s Integro League Cup second round at Newcastle Town was called off due to fog and a frozen pitch.

Meanwhile, Tividale will host a Wolves XI in the second round of the Birmingham Senior Cup tonight.
