Chasetown 1 Staveley Miners Welfare 0 - Report
Giant killers Staveley Miners Welfare were looking to conquer another team in the Northern Premier Division 1 after ousting Lincoln United in the preliminary round.
Chasetown had the perfect chance to break the deadlock in the first 90 seconds. Levi Reid slipped the ball into George Cater who chipped keeper Myles Wright but the ball was headed off the line by Joe Cheeseman.
It was no surprise when the Scholars opened the scoring after 7 minutes after dominating the early play. Skipper Ryan Wynter teed up Cater who slid the ball under Wright.
Chances were few and far between in the first period. Both defences were on top in a dour encounter.
Midway through the second half, Chasetown looked the most likely to add to their lead and Alex Curtis’ cross was flicked on by Wynter into the path of Cater who was a yard wide of the upright.
Substitute Danny Cocks forced Wright into a save with a header as Scott Dundas’ mem looked to make the game safe.
The visitors failed to register a serious attempt at the Chasetown goal as the hosts progressed into the next round.
