Market Drayton Town 1 Chasetown 3 - Report
Chasetown made a positive start and Danny Cocks and Ryan Wynter both created early chances for the visitors.
The Scholars were almost ahead in the 5th minute. Leading scorer Muzzy Nduna fired beyond keeper Oleksandr Ilchenko but JJ Melligan cleared off the line.
Market Drayton came back into the game and Curtis Pond had to be at his best to deny Javier Roberts.
Chasetown reasserted themselves and Ilchenko punched a Cocks effort over the bar.
From the resultant corner, Nduna was superbly saved by Ilchenko and then Cocks had his effort cleared off the line by Darious Darkin.
Chasetown’s patience eventually paid off and, in the 40th minute, Jordan Flattley superbly broke up play to feed Ryan Wynter and his cross found skipper Jack Langston who drove the ball home.
Two minutes later, Nduna won the ball and fed Will Whieldon who smashed the ball past Ilchenko from outside the area.
Whieldon had an effort cleared off the line by substitute Jean Kalenda before Chasetown extended their lead just before the hour with trickery from Cocks and Nduna headed home at the near post.
Drayton defender Bradley Maslen-Jones denied Jake Lovatt with a last ditch tackle before Lovatt struck the crossbar.
Drayton scored a goal with the last kick of the game through Ryan Seal.
