In their latest Concentric Sales & Lettings Western section outing last season’s beaten Chell Cup finalists and top tier divisional runners-up made it five straight wins in their chase for outright glory.

This week they triumphed 2-1 in what was billed as a top-of-the-table clash against visiting Netherton Tigers, and so opened up a four-point gap at the head of the pack.

Vital first-half goals from Gregg Poole (penalty) and Joe Reynolds, with a well struck half-volley, put Sporting in charge, although Curtis Fellows kept things close for Netherton.

While Netherton slipped to third spot, new boys Blades FC moved within four points of the pacesetters in second place after a 4-0 home win against Coseley FC.

Having opened the campaign with a defeat, Blades have now gone on an unbeaten five-game run after Alex Cameron (two), Ben Morris and an own goal gave them the spoils in this latest fixture.

Visiting Wrens Nest Rangers were denied a top two spot after FC Premier 2014 produced a storming comeback from 4-1 down to share eight goals and the points.

Outstanding for FC Premier was keeper Sam Agius but he could not prevent Wrens Nest establishing a health lead. However, goals from Dan Meredith (two) and Ugo Iroegbunam and a last-minute Harry Harper goal earned Premier a point.

Ty Markland, Tom Gwinnell, Jacob Alexander and Jay Kelly had inflicted the early damage on the hosts.

There was a second league triumph for Dudley Rangers United who ran out narrow 3-2 victors at Sporting Black Country.

However, SBC went close on this occasion as Dominic Weathers and Joshua East found the target, but Olly Hartland, Scott Fisher and an own goal thwarted their hopes for a sixth straight game.

In the Paycare Eastern section, there was a big upset as early front-runners Trysull Athletic dropped their first points in five starts, after paying the penalty for missing an early spot-kick.

Although Trysull were level at the interval, visiting AFC Bloxwich took full advantage to move 3-1 ahead in the second period and eventually take the points by the odd goal in five.

The trio of Reece Berry, Jordan Spragg and Tom Lesevre took the limelight for Bloxwich, with the Athletic replies coming from Will Spruce and Steve Rickhuss.

This first Trysull setback enabled Essington AFC to move back on level points at the head of the table as they ran out worthy 4-0 winners at Black Country Fusion Development.

After a goalless first half, the visitors took charge as Isaac Cooper bagged a hat-trick and Curtis Tonks obliged with a fourth goal.

Third spot is now occupied by Codsall Station who made it four matches unbeaten with a 3-1 success at Bushbury Hill, whose young teenage keeper Carlton Lowbridge kept out his second spot kick this term.

However he could not prevent Codsall claiming a third league win in five as Chris Campbell, Liam Davies and Paul Hart found the target, with Marcus Harris replying from the penalty spot for luckless Bushbury.

On the Advanced Recruit over-30s front, newcomers AFC Wulfrunians slipped to a narrow 3-2 defeat at the hands of Casuals FC in the Eastern section. Casuals’ goals came from Joey Norton (two) and Jack Raison took their chances.

Wulfrunians had fought back from two down to level through strikes from Marvin Robinson and Richard Gummery.

In the over-30s Western division, Springvale Albion edged out Wrottesley Old Boys 4-3.

Darrell Gillett (two), Derek Cole and Sean Delaney netted for Springvale, while two-goal James Hines and Lorenzo Consigilo kept things close.

Emerald Athletic opened their account with a 2-1 win at AFC Bilbrook, who led early on thanks to an own goal and also missed two penalties. Jordan Perks and Martin Stokes gave Athletic a winning start.
