Rushall Olympic1 Redditch United 3 - Report
Two goals from Shaquille Leachman-Whittingham helped Redditch United to a vital victory over Rushall Olympic, the third successive time that they have beaten the Pics this season.
The home side`s cause wasn`t helped by the controversial sending-off of Asa Charlton, five minutes into the second half, but it was a disappointing performance from the home side who failed to build on an excellent New Year`s Day display at league-leaders Stourbridge.
It was the visitors who took an early lead when in the eleventh minute Shquaille Leachman-Whittingham turned the ball home at the far post after a long throw was headed into his path.
Rushall`s first effort at goal took twenty seven minutes to arrive when Danny Waldron cut inside but shot straight at Reece Francis but four minutes later they were on level terms when Ashley Sammons shot was deflected into the net by Danny O`Callaghan.
The goal gave the home side some impetus and Waldron was in action again moments later with a surging run which saw his shot easily saved by Francis and O`Callaghan got on the end of a Brian Smikle cross but his shot was blocked before being cleared.
On the stroke of half time came the first moment of controversy when Sam Whittall was adjudged to have handed a fierce shot, just yards away from him, and it was Leachman-Whittingham who stepped up to easily convert the spot-kick sending Adam Przybek the wrong way.
Five minutes into the second half the home side were reduced to ten men when Charlton was sent-off and the game developed into a midfield battle.
Twenty minutes from time though the visitors sealed the game when substitute David Reynolds headed home Robbie Bunn`s free- kick and the Reds saw the game out in relative comfort to pick up three excellent points.
