Tough run continues for King and his men

Tivi have started the campaign in strong style, winning eight games and losing just once, but King is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

They head to fourth-placed Malvern on the back of a 3-2 triumph at third-placed Wolverhampton Casuals on Tuesday night.

“We’re looking forward to it. We’ve had a lot of tough fixtures to the start the season – and this is certainly another one,” said King. “We know it’s going to be a tough game. They had a strong team last year and they’ve improved the squad so we’re under no illusions.”

Tivi’s sole defeat came at the hands of Black Country Rangers, who are a point off them and travel to Pegasus Juniors.

King was quick to dispel the notion that the title is either of theirs to be won.

He feels Casuals, who host second-bottom Bilston Town, are one of a few more teams who could really push for the crown – and promotion to the Midland Premier.

“I think there’s a good half-a-dozen teams who’ll be up there,” said King.

“There’s a good number of strong sides in this league, it’s a tougher league than last year and I think Haughmond, Malvern and Wolverhampton Casuals are a few others who’ll do well this season.”

Missed

Tivi have not at all been goal-shy. Dan Smith got a brace against Casuals – as well as another double in the 6-0 victory over Shawbury United last weekend. Demetri Brown struck twice against Shawbury too and could be back tomorrow after missing Tuesday’s game through illness.

“I’m hoping we’ll have Demetri back after he missed out with the flu on Tuesday night,” added King.

“We’ve got Dan Bryson unavailable due to work commitments. It’d be nice to have Demetri back but we’ve got Dan Smith and a few others such as Tyree Clarke scoring goals so we’re in good shape either way.”

Also in the division, the pride of Dudley is on the line as Town host Sports in what should be a lively encounter.

Cradley Town are at Hereford Lads Club while Smethwick Rangers, who lost 4-1 to Cradley on Tuesday, are out to bounce back against Haughmond.

Up in the Midland Premier, struggling Wolverhampton Sporting have a big chance of getting a much-needed win as they host rock-bottom South Normanton Athletic.

Stourport Swifts are at home against Loughborough University while AFC Wulfrunians face Dunkirk. Walsall Wood take on Worcester City, Lye Town go up against Shepshed Dynamo, and Sporting Khalsa are at Boldmere St Michaels.
