Buxton 4 Stafford Rangers 1 - Report

Josh Green’s second half consolation goal for Stafford Rangers was not enough to repair the damage done in a disastrous first half.

Rangers started well with Harry Benns and Tom Marshall going close in a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately that sparked action at the other end. Buxton’s Jude Oyibo picked the ball up on the edge of the area, skipped past James Askey and fired left footed into the bottom corner.

Only ten minutes later and Oyibo once again skipped by Askey, crossed for Diego Degirolamo who finished from six yards.

It went from bad to worse before half-time when a long ball from the Alex Brown caught Luke Jones napping, Degirolamo showed him a fresh pair of heels and slotted past Whitehouse.

When Brad Grayson crossed for Brown to score the Bucks’ fourth moments later the game was all but over.

Izak Reid headed onto the crossbar minutes before the half-time whistle as the away side tried to pull one back in vain.

Rangers rallied bravely in the second half and when Benns wriggled free in the area and found Green who side-footed home. It gave them hope but it was too little too late.

Stafford assistant manager Andy Fearn was disappointed with the performance.

He said: “It was not a good performance and we’ve told them it is a good job we have got a game on Tuesday to try and put right straight away the things we got wrong today.

“It was quite simply not good enough today.”
