Young guns get chance to impress at Cradley Town
Cradley Town will be heading into this season with a new manager, Ashley Causer, and a new squad.
A lot of the players who will tackle this season’s top flight campaign have been signed from the club’s youth development scheme, after the majority of last season’s squad left alongside former boss Andy Wyton, who now heads up Lye Town.
Cradley chairman Trevor Thomas says the club have had to bring in a lot of their youth players as they lack a strong financial backing.
But he says this is a positive move and is looking forward to their development over the coming seasons.
He said: “It will be enjoyable to watch the lads progress. Fingers crossed, they can keep their heads on and we will look at the results.
“We have kept three or four lads from last year. A lot of our older lads have moved on to Lye Town. Our former manager has took around 80 to 90 per cent of last season’s squad with him to Lye.
“We can’t compete with Lye’s budget but I wish them all the best.
“For this season, we can’t say whether we will be there or thereabouts. But fingers crossed, if we can keep together we can bring forward the lads for the future.”
Thomas believes Cradley have some talented youngsters coming through their ranks and one of them, Daniel Danks, 18, has been signed by Walsall.
He hopes the club can help more young players develop and progress up the football pyramid.
