Tony Gore swoops in a late signing spree

They avoided the drop by just four points last season, but boss Tony Gore is determined Dudley Sports won’t face the threat of relegation this term.

The manager has overseen a hectic summer that saw six players – midfielders Abdul Ishola, Lee Mills and Tony Reid, full-backs Kennan Dunckley and Josh Woodhall and winger Emile Beckford – arrive this week.

And while he’s been disappointed that some of last season’s squad opted to move on, he is confident his side now has enough for an enjoyable campaign.

“It’s been a hectic summer – we have looked at a lot of players,” Gore said. “We lost three or four which I was disappointed with, I expected a bit more loyalty from a few but that is football.

“But we’ve rebuilt and we have done well throughout pre-season.

“Everyone’s aim at the start has to be to win the league. But it’s going to be hard for us to compete with the teams like Tividale, Black Country Rangers and Wolverhampton Casuals, who have far bigger budgets.

“The most important thing for us is to do a lot better than we did last season. We stayed up, but it was a bit too close for comfort at times.

“We’re determined not to be involved in another relegation scrap. And, being honest, a top 10 finish would be a success.”

“I’d probably take 10th if you offered it to me now. But we are still trying to get players in. And if we get the right ones, anything can happen.”
