Fresh challenge for Dean Gill and his old-boys at Wolverhampton Casuals

Gill will front up Wolverhampton Casuals’ Premier Division push for glory this season after ending his lengthy stay at Wednesfield.

And the manager was followed from the Cottage Ground by the squad of players he took charge of last season, as well as a batch of talented youngsters.

“All of the Wednesfield first team from last year have moved across with myself and Lee Tutron, as well as the lads who played for the youth team,” said Gill.

“The youth team were superb last year and they won the league and cup. They have stepped up to senior football now and there are some talented players there.”

And while the Wednesfield lads have moved in, all bar one of last year’s Casuals squad have moved out.

“I wanted to have a look at the players who played here last season and they were all invited to come to training,” said Gill, who started sessions back in May.“But apart from Ted Owen they have decided to move on and that’s their prerogative. That’s football.”

Gill has made two other signings with defenders Ben Podmore, ex-Gornal, and Jack Grice, formerly with Great Wyrley, arriving.

Casuals finished ninth last year while Gill led Wednesfield to fifth and he his looking to be in the top six again this season.

“It shouldn’t be underestimated how difficult it is to all move from one club to another, but realistically we want to be in the top six,” he said.
