Andy Paddock praises his Wolves Sporting heroes

A spot of rest and recuperation will be the order of the day for boss Andy Paddock and his Wolves Sporting heroes after they finally called time on a season to remember.

Paddock’s men just missed out on adding a third piece of silverware to their haul when they went down 1-0 to Atherstone in the final of the JW Hunt Cup.

But that defeat couldn’t take the gloss off a stunning campaign that saw Sporting power to the West Midlands League Premier Division title and lift the League Cup.

And now Paddock is welcoming the chance of a little R&R before talks with the club to formulate next season’s plan of action for the Midland League.

“The players deserve a nice break,” said Paddock. “It’s been a long season and they need to get a way for a couple of weeks and not think about football.

“We have won the league and cup double, reached the last 16 of the FA Vase, the final of the JW Hunt Cup and the semi-final of the Staffs Senior Cup.

“It’s been a brilliant season. We have exceeded all our expectations.

“The players were gutted to lose in the final the other night but I can’t criticise them at all. They have given everything this season.

“We didn’t play well against Atherstone to be fair, but we still created a lot of chances. Then we conceded a scrappy goal that took a deflection.

“We didn’t look tired and our energy levels were there, it was just one of those nights. It’s the first time this season we have failed to score and it happened in our last game and it happened in our last game.

“Now we all need a break and then I need to sit down and have a meeting with people at the club and see where we go from here and what plan we can come up with for next season.”
