Ambitious proposals for a new stadium complex on Zortech Avenue have met with a mixed reaction from supporters since being unveiled a week ago.

But in an impassioned video released on the club’s website on Wednesday, Gordon insisted the new stadium could lay the foundations for a glorious future.

Burton have climbed from non-league to the Championship over the past decade and Gordon said: “Why can we not do what they have done? Or not push even higher than that?

“I played at Wimbledon in the 1980s and good grief, to all intents and purposes it was a pub team.

“People say it can never be done again but I beg to differ. There is a lot of talent out there which is going to get thrown on the scrap heap because of the way the game is going.”

The new venue would replace Aggborough, where Harriers have been based since 1890. It would feature a training complex, housing all the club’s current teams, along with educational facilities for all age groups.

The club are keen to stress the project remains very much in its infancy and in the video, Gordon confirmed discussions are ongoing with ‘varied partners’ over funding. He did, however, confirm that the club would own the land on which the new stadium would be built.

Gordon, who has invited to meet supporters with any concerns prior to Saturday’s home game with Alfreton, continued: “There are no hidden agendas. I am not looking for a get-rich-quick scheme. I want to build something we are all proud of, a legacy and a fantastic example for the rest of the game.

“Football is failing and I want to create an environment where we can put it right. Let’s make this club great.”
